Sudha Murthy watches The Vaccine War. Last week, the producers unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for Vivek Agnihotri's latest film, "The Vaccine War." Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the acclaimed filmmaker shared a video from a special screening of the movie featuring the renowned author and educator, Sudha Murty. In the video, Sudha Murty praised Vivek Agnihotri for his portrayal of the remarkable journey behind the development of Covaxin and shared her own experiences as a working woman.
"The Vaccine War," starring Nana Patekar and Pallavi Joshi, chronicles the inspiring journey of a team of Indian scientists as they work tirelessly to create an indigenous and affordable Covid-19 vaccine. This compelling film is set to grace theaters on September 28th.
During her remarks about the film, Sudha Murty reflected on the challenges faced by women who balance their roles as mothers, wives, and career professionals. She eloquently expressed, "It is really heart-touching. I do understand the role of a woman because she is a mother, she is a wife, and she is also a career person. It is all very hard to balance, from my own experience, your family and your work."
Sudha Murty continued, "It is not easy for a woman to do well in her career with her children. She requires good family support. I always say that behind every successful woman, there is an understanding man, otherwise she can't do it... In this film, the children were small but they will be proud of their mother and what she has done."
She also highlighted the film's broader message, stating, "For a common person, they will not understand what is Covaxin, but this movie really shows the effort and the selfless work that all scientists did so that we all can live in a democratic India, happily and healthily. That is a very important message, I realized."
"The Vaccine War" is based on the true story of the development of Covaxin (BBV152), a remarkable coronavirus vaccine created by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the National Institute of Virology and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
In this cinematic journey, Nana Patekar portrays the head scientist leading the race against time, while Pallavi Joshi shines as his dedicated second-in-command. Raima Sen takes on the role of a journalist weaving a narrative to discredit India's efforts and promote foreign vaccines, and Anupam Kher appears as the Prime Minister. The film is poised for a grand release on September 28, 2023, promising to captivate audiences with its gripping portrayal of this remarkable scientific endeavor.
