After Netizens - Minister objects to Chhaava

Vicky Kaushal is starring in a historical entertainer Chhaava directed by Lakshman Uthekar. The makers couple of days back released the powerpacked trailer of the film ahead of the release on14 Feb 2025.

However, netizens after watching the trailer turned furious with the makers distroting the history by committing 'Haindavi Swaraj' and also shooting a romantic song on Sambhaji Maharaj and his wife Yesubai.

A netizen reacted  'I hated it when Sambhaji Raje was shown dancing. Why does Bollywood feel the need to add its touch everywhere? Our king was a warrior and a protector of Dharma, not someone who danced for entertainment. This is a disrespect to his legacy'.

Another reacted angrily 'He Hindavi Swaraj Vhave He Shrinchi Ichaa' (This Hindavi Swarajya is the divine will). The dialogue in the trailer showed He Rajya Vhave. Also, the omission of term Hindavi which means the inclusive and unified identity of Swarajya, has been understood by many as an intebntional act to erase historical and cultural significance. One wrote, 'I have grown up hearing the mantra ‘हे हिंदवी स्वराज्य व्हाव ही श्रींची इच्छा.’ Bollywood has deliberately removed it to push their liberal agenda. This is unacceptable!' Another commented saying, 'They used the word Swarajya but not Hindavi Swarajya. It’s shameful how they’re trying to restrict Sambhaji Maharaj’s vision to a regional identity'.

They are angry that the makers are giving due importance and respect to Mughal Emperor Aurangazeb and been kind to him. Akshaye Khanna played the role of Aurangazeb in the film with Rashmika Mandanna played the role of Yesubai.  Following this, Maharashtra Ministert took a strong exception to Chhaava film.

Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant clarified his position over the ongoing controversy and demanded an expert review of the film. ''It is a matter of joy that a Hindi film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the protector of religion and protector of freedom, is being made. Such efforts are necessary to make the world understand the history of Chhatrapati. However, many have expressed their opinions that there are some objectionable scenes in this film. Our position is that this film should not be released without first showing it to experts and knowledgeable people. Anything that will harm the honor of the Maharaj will not be tolerated,'' he wrote in his post.

He also warned ''Our position is that the producers and directors of the film should take immediate action in this regard and remove anything objectionable. The further decision will be taken after watching the film, otherwise this film will not be allowed to be released!''
