Bhansali new project Jai Somnath announced on Shivratri. Ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced a new project on the auspicious occasion of Shivratri. The project Jai Somnath was announced. While Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be bankrolling the project, Ketan Mehta will be directing it.

The project is described as “seminal tale of Indian civilisation,” the film is slated for release in 2027. It will be bankrolled on Bhansali Productions and Mehta’s Maya Movies.

Ketan Mehta is coming back to direction after five years. He last directed Aamir Khan's Mangal Pandey. The makers also dropped a video to announce the project that shows a religious building with a saffron flag on top of it. In the announcement video, the makers revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ketan Mehta will "bring to life the saga of Somnath" and "the indestructible spirit of India." The video also shows the destruction of a temple. "A temple can be broken, not the faith," reads the tagline in the clip.

Bhansali said “I’ve always been a huge fan of Ketan Mehta’s cinema. His Mirch Masala is among my ten favourite Indian films of all time. We’ve long discussed collaborating, and this feels like the right project to create something truly special together.”
