Guntur, Oct 6: Minister for Major Irrigation Kanna Lakshminarayana has directed the officials to evacuate people residing in the villages between Repalle and Oleru on the banks of river Krishna to relief camps. He requested the people to cooperate with the officials in this endeavor. The evacuation is being carried out as a precautionary measure to safeguard the safety of the people from flood waters.The Minister has taken this step as the bunds at Oleru village in Bhattiprolu mandalam have breached gushing flood waters may enter the village at any moment from now. He directed the officials to fortify the bunds by placing cement and sand-laden bags as the flood waters are entering many villages between Repalle and Oleru.Supervising the relief and rescue operations with Minister for Technical Education Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and minister for Social Welfare Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Lakshminarayana appealed to people to cooperate with the officials in shifting them to rehabilitation centres.
Guntur District Collector Ramanjaneyulu sounded 48 hours red alert in Guntur district as flood waters may submerge villages.Joint Collector Uppal said that villages surrounding 15 km radius of Repalle would be evacuated to prevent flood fury. The breach occurred at Annavaram in Kollipara mandalam would be repaired to prevent further damage, he added.
