Maniratnam, famous director world wide for his superb story telling and intelligent movie making is now in serious troubles with debacle of 'Kadali' and 'Kadal.' Debuting Gautham Karthik and Thulasi Nair as lead starcast, the movie was released under good expectations in Tamil Nadu. Although Telugu audience always find such concepts undigestible, there was a hope for Mani on 'Kadal' to ignite the box office.

Unfortunately, Tamil version has also proved to be a big dud with significant drop of collections from day 2. On this account, distributors of some areas in Tamil Nadu are known to have approached the director demanding for a return of share of their investments made on buying the area wise rights to recover some portion of their losses.
