Over experimentation isn’t a good option for creative directors like Mani Ratnam. His recent flops and disasters have pulled the craze and brand value of Mani to lowest levels. Nevertheless he is compelled to look back at his old hits and try to emulate the same to glorify his image. ‘OK Bangaram’ is one such project which is said to be on the romantic lines of evergreen film ‘Sakhi.’ What matters is the change of star cast from Mahdavan, Shalini to Dulquer Salman, Nithya Menon while AR Rahman is still the same.
Anyways, Mani wanted to give a break for his flop streak both in Telugu and Tamil at one time. So, he has not only produced the film on own but also made Dil Raju join the team as distributor for Telugu version. If reports are to be believed, Mani gave the distribution rights of ‘OK Bangaram’ at throw away price to Dil Raju knowing his strong hold in theater network and ability to promote the film effectively.
If at all ‘OK Bangaram’ has limited substance to entice youth audience, the film is going to be a commercial treat at metro BO. Let us wish Mani Ratnam for a strong comeback.
