First Half 2018: Telugu Hit Films

It was decent first half for Telugu cinema in 2018. However, most of the films released during biggest seasons of Sankranthi and summer disappointed trade and audience. While Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam is the true blockbuster for the year so far, Mahanati is a big hit for its budget. Here is the list of hit films in 2018 first half:

1. Bhaagamathie: This Anushka starrer and G Ashok directed film minted around Rs 28 crores, which is phenomenal for a female centric film. UV Creations invested huge amount for production and graphics and thankfully the film did wonderful business at box office providing first hit for Tollywood this year.

2. Chalo: Naga Shaurya was going through lean phase before release of Chalo. Venky Kudumula came up with a hilarious entertainer which was high on romance. Made on a small budget, Chalo which is maiden production venture for Naga Shaurya collected 12.50 cr distributor share worldwide for full run.

3. Tholi Prema: Varun Tej after scoring first commercial hit with Fidaa had done a rom-com Tholi Prema that was directed by Venky Atluri. Though the film was not that big compared to Fidaa, it provided profits to producer. For full run, Tholi Prema raked 24.14 Cr.

4. Rangasthalam: Magadheera was biggest hit for Ram Charan who then failed to score another big blockbuster. Rangasthalam was the film he anticipated all the years. The Sukumar directed film earned him appreciations, before dominating box office for weeks. The film collected a full run shares of 127 Cr worldwide.

5. Bharat Ane Nenu: Superstar Mahesh Babu and Koratala Siva combination did wonders another time with Bharat Ane Nenu. However, the film which won critical applause has botched to continue the momentum at ticket window from its second week. BAN full run business closed at 92 Cr.

6. Mahanati: It is the biggest hit of small to medium range films. The Nag Ashwin directed film which is biopic of Mahanati Savitri has succeeded to entertain all section of audience and all age groups. Keerthy Suresh was lauded for her wonderful performance. Many stated she just nailed it effortlessly. Mahanati collected a full run share of 42.70 Cr. 

7. Sammohanam: Sudheer Babu and Indraganti Mohana Krishna shined in their respective jobs. While Indraganti got full marks for his hilarious and emotional writing Sudheer Babu impressed with his realistic show. The film is doing decent business in its third week and it is soon expected to enter profit zone.

Let’s hope, Tollywood will deliver many more hits in second half of 2018.
