Looks like this is a season of scams. No, we don’t mean it in a literal sense. We’re talking about the number of shows and films based on scams. While it was Scam 1992, a web show based on the Harshad Mehta story, that set the tone for this trend, this was followed by Vishnu Manchu’s film Mosagallu revolving around an international call centre-scam. From what we hear, Ramalinga Raju’s Satyam scam is the subject of focus for a show being made by Nagesh Kukunoor. And now a non-fiction book based on the Yes Bank Scam is set to be adapted for the screen as well.
Publishing house Penguin Random House India has revealed that it has closed a deal with Almighty Motion Picture for the adaptation rights of the book ‘The Banker Who Crushed His Diamonds: The YES Bank Story’, written by Furquan Moharkan. The book uncovers the deep rot set in YES Bank’s story. Charting the trajectory of the bank, from its inception to its dramatic rise and meteoric downfall, this book captures the story of the people behind one of the biggest banking failures in Indian history.
Author of the book Furquan Moharkan shares, ‘A scam of this magnitude has to be taken to masses, and what better than a book getting made for the screen. We have also seen growing interest in financial thrillers in the country, which I hope would lead to the success of the adaptation.’ The production house has earlier helmed a web series Mastram for the streaming platform MX Player.
