National Film Day brings people to theatres, but will it sustain?

The National Film Day was celebrated on September 23 and it resulted in people thronging the theatres. With the top multiplex chains offering tickets for a meagre Rs 75, all came to theatres to experience the watching of films with technically superior and state of the art facility screens.

Allaying the fears of the makers of films like Brahmastra, the collections of Brahmastra, recently released Chup and even Sitaramam witnessed a steep rise. All this happened due to affordable ticket rates. It is coming out that more than 65 lakh people visited theatres on National Film Day on September 23 and enjoyed the visual extravaganza on the big screen.

This once again proved that if tickets are priced at affordable rates, people always prefer to enjoy films having big screen experience in the theatres and the footfalls proved this. But the question is will it sustain. This is difficult as Dil Raju who is presenting Mani Ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan in Telugu, opened the ticket rates for the film at Rs 295 which is way too high. If the talk is bad, surely the makers of Ponniyin Selvan will get a huge shock.
