The State Government on Tuesday announced an award of Rs. 21 lakh to Gagan Narang for qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics.
Speaking on the occasion, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Minister for IT, Youth and Sports, told media persons that the award is part of the government's continuous efforts to promote sports. The Sports Minister revealed that the shooter would be felicitated in Hyderabad very soon. The minster hoped that Narang would bring laurels to the state by winning a gold medal in the London Olympics.
Gagan Narang became the first Indian shooter to qualify for 2012 Olympics to be held in London, after he clinched the bronze medal in a 10 metre air rifle event at the Munich World Championships, earlier in the month.
