State GDP rose despite T-agitations : KTR

Sircilla Mla K Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday found fault with Chief Minister K Rosaiah for hurting the sentiments of all Telangana protagonists by saying that the growth of the state has been hampered due to the separate statehood agitations.

Talking to media persons at the Telangana Bhavan, the TRS leader said that Mr Rosaiah had hurt the feelings of the Telangana people by making statements contrary to the facts.

He said that the state had witnessed an increase by 1.85 per cent in GDP even at the height of the Telangana agitations in December 2009 and January 2010. This, KTR said, was up from the GDP during the reign of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

KTR revealed that the state had generated revenues of Rs 55,548 crore during the past year, an increase of Rs 4,700 crore.

He expressed bewilderment at Mr Rosaiah’s statement made earlier in the day that investors are leaving the state due to the unrest over the Telangana issue.

The Sircilla MLA said that fact prove that the investors were leaving from Seemandhra regions and not Telangana. He cited the example of Tata Motors, who chose Gujarat over Andhra Pradesh for setting up the company’s car production unit.

KTR said that the government owes an explanation to the people of the state as to why the investors were not keen to come to the state.

The TRS leader hinted that the reluctance of investors to come to the state was not due to the political unrest over Telangana but due to the indifferent attitude of the government and the tussle for power following the tragic death of YSR.

KTR also said that no true integrationist represented before the Srikrishna Commission. He elaborated that only businessmen in the guise of politicians had made their representations.
