Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy on Wednesday afternoon said that the Ganesh Visarjan procession, currently underway, has been peaceful so far with no reports of any untoward incidents from any part of the city.

Talking to INN at Moazzam Jahi Market, Ms Indra Reddy said that the police are maintaining strict vigil over the city and any attempt to disturb the peace would be dealt with strictly.

The Home Minister appealed to the people to co-operate with the law-keepers in maintaining law and order in the City.

Ms Indra Reddy also appealed of all religions not to encourage any rumour mongers by alerting the police if someone tries to spread rumours.

Referring to the impending verdict by the Allahabad High Court over the title suit of the Babri Masjid slated for September 24, the Home Minister said that if any community is disappointed by the judgment, then it can take recourse of the higher Courts than resort to protests. She appealed to people not to show excessive joy and thereby hurt members of the other community after the verdict.

Ms Indra Reddy expressed confidence that the entire procession would pass off peacefully.
