Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Telangana Agitation Committee Chairman Rajeswara Rao on Saturday alleged that though the government was spending thousands of crores of rupees on irrigation projects, farmers living on the periphery of these projects were deprived of water.
The BJP leaders have taken up the ‘Project Bata’ and visited the various irrigation projects taken up under ‘Jalayagnam’.
Talking to media persons during his party’s ‘Project Bata’, the BJP leader alleged that the cost of the projects under ‘Jalayagnam’ was being deliberately escalated through a nexus between officials and political leaders.
They said that farmers in Karimnagar district were deprived of even drinking water, let alone water for irrigation, though the massive ‘Jalayagnam’ project is being taken up by the state government.
The BJP team inspected various irrigation projects and studied their progress. The team alleged that rampant corruption and irregularities have taken root in the execution of irrigation projects and sought comprehensive probe into entire issue.
Mr RAjeswara Rao urged the government to provide relief for those villagers, whose lands have been submerged in the backwaters of these irrigation projects and also provide alternative land for these victims.
The BJP leader also alleged that both the TDP and Congress have failed to undertake irrigation projects in the Telangana region.
He said the Telangana Agitation Committee would intensify its agitation against corruption and irregularities in all irrigation projects in Telangana region.
