The state government had on October 1 named Additional CEO Dakshina Murthy as interim Chief Electoral Officer, after former Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao was posted as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Personnel at the Centre.

Mr Bhanwar Lal will have his task difficult as Mr Subba Rao had won laurels from various quarters for the way he discharged his duties, having successfully conducted simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assembly last year.
