Scenes of anger, celebrations at OU Campus

The dramatic shift in the attitude of students towards the state government on Friday before and after the announcement to postpone the Recruitment Test for Sub-Inspector’s posts was too glaring not to be reported.

Before the announcement by Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Telangana students had indulged in sloganeering against the government earlier since Friday morning. Murmurs of another rally till Tarnaka, similar to the one taken out on Thursday were all too audible.

Some of the more adventurous students had even arranged a buffalo in the Campus. For the naïve students, the presence of the buffalo was puzzling.

The wonderment at the buffalo’s presence in front of the Arts College building soon gave way to mirth and giggles when another set of students brought an effigy, depicting Chief Minister K Rosaiah. The ‘Chief Minister’ was ceremoniously placed atop the buffalo and paraded around the lawns of the Arts College.

‘Mr Rosaiah’ was then, also ceremoniously, unseated from ‘his’ perch atop the bare back of the buffalo and set alight. The students then pronounced that the state government was dead.

But, as the famous saying goes, “The King is Dead!, Long Live the King,” the students soon got the news about the government buckling under the pressure they had brought.

Soon enough, the murmurs of dissent turned into shouts of joy and congratulatory handshakes and hugs.

The students announced that, like a phoenix, Mr Rosaiah had arisen from the ashes. The students welcomed the announcement by describing it as a wise decision.

Talking to INN, Research Scholar Madhu, who had suffered injuries during the agitation on Thursday, said, “this is the achievement for which the credit goes to students. The government should conduct the exams only after getting Clause 14 (F) deleted from the Presidential Order.
