Calling on people’s representatives, officials and general public to widely participate in the Racha Banda which is being launched with much fanfare by the state government from January 24, former chief minister K Rosaiah criticized the Congress leaders who had said that they would boycott the programme.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office premises, the former chief minister said the Racha Banda is aimed to address long-pending people’s problems and leaders would be doing a disservice to the people by boycotting the programme.

Mr Rosaiah’s statement comes in the wake of a section of Congress leaders threatening to boycott Racha Banda, demanding that the government address the demand of a separate Telangana state first.

He said that the government aims to take its welfare schemes to the doorsteps of people through the programme.

Besides addressing the problems of people, the programme is aimed at providing all infrastructure facilities, the former chief minister pointed out.

“I don’t know the reasons why some sections of leaders are boycotting the programme,” he stated. “The elected representatives should know that the programme was aimed to address problems of people,” he stated.

Asking the people to widely participate in the programme, he appealed to them to come up with grievances.

When the reporters asked about the raw deal for state MPs in the Cabinet expansion, the former chief minister refused to answer the question and left.
