PRP welcome, Congress not averse to taking TRS support: DS

Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas on Tuesday said that the party would not rule out seeking support from any other like-minded political party, including the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Briefing media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Mr Srinivas said that Congress Core Committee member AK Antony had come to Hyderabad on Monday only to hand over the letter of invitation from Congress president Sonia Gandhi to Praja Rajyam Party president K Chiranjeevi. The letter invited Mr Chiranjeevi to New Delhi for talks about a future alliance in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Srinivas said.

Elaborating further, Mr Srinivas stated that the High Command is keen to know whether the PRP was willing to join the government or merge with the Congress.

He said that the High Command’s invitation to Mr Chiranjeevi came as most of the PRP cadre are willing to work with the Congress cadre to check former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s group.

Reacting on various reports appearing in media over the alliance with the PRP, Mr Srinivas said “We cannot predict what the future holds. Anything can happen in the state. The Congress will hold talks with any party or leaders, if the situation needs”.

“We will also talk to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao if the situation and need arises to protect the government at the Centre and in the state,” he pointed out.

When asked to elaborate, Mr Srinivas said that the media must have patience and adopt a ‘wait and watch’ policy.

When asked if the Congress will hold parleys with the yet-to-be formed party led by Mr Jaganmohan Reddy, the PCC chief refused to answer and sought to end the press meet.

However when media persons persistently pointed out the apprehensions expressed by some leaders that the Congress will bite dust in Telangana if it aligns with the PRP, Mr Srinivas rubbished the statements and said the Centre will take a decision on Telangana at the appropriate time and come to power in 2014 elections.
