Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan on Monday expressed his deep anguish that while the state was headed towards a ‘financial emergency’, political parties, both ruling and opposition, were more interested at trying to corner each other in the state Assembly.

Speaking to media persons at the Media Point after the Assembly was adjourned for the day, Dr Narayan blamed both the ruling and opposition parties for their failure to address the burning issue of Telangana state formation so that the administration, which has been effectively paralysed since the past few days, can get back to work.

The former IAS officer said that Constitutional bodies have been formed with the purpose of addressing the problems and issues of the people on priority basis.

This purpose was being defeated with the political parties adopting ‘delaying tactics’ on the Telangana state issue and stalling the proceedings, though directly or indirectly, Dr Narayan said. He said that the continued ‘nonfunctioning’ of the state Assembly was not only damaging the image of the state, but was also hurting the interests of investors and business community.

“If all the parties resort to boycott calls and rallies, how can the problem be addressed? If the Telangana issue persists, the state might face serious financial crisis soon,” he pointed out.

The LSP chief appealed to Members of all parties to come up with an open mind on Telangana issue. “The Telangana issue should be settled in a peaceful, calm and coordinated manner and it should be given top priority,” Dr Narayan stated.

He said the political parties should not dictate terms in the constitutional bodies. All parties should abide by the Constitution and respect the Speaker’s directions and maintain decorum in the House.

Stating that students have harmed their bright careers and precious time by participating in the Telangana agitation, Dr Narayan demanded that the state government free the campuses from police bandobust and create congenial atmosphere so that they can get back to devoting their time to pursue academic interests.
