Kodandaram demands immediate release of students

Telangana Political Joint Action Committee convenor Kodandaram on Monday demanded the immediate release of all students who were arrested while participating in the Chalo Assembly protest earlier in the day.

Prof Kodandaram pointed out that as many as 40 students were in police custody after being arrested near the Assembly premises while they were protesting to support the demand of a resolution in the state Assembly over the Telangana Bill, from police custody.

Talking to media persons at JAC Office at Adarshnagar in the city, the Tpjac convenor demanded immediate release of all 40 students and warned of serious consequences if the government fails to act.

Prof Kodandaram also appealed to all sections of people to participate in the 48-hour bandh called for Tuesday and Wednesday and make it a grand success.

“The situation would not have reached this level, if the government had acted swiftly on Telangana state formation issue,” he stated.

Prof Kodandaram also revealed that the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee would meet again on February 24 to finalise the future course of action plan on how to take the separate statehood demand further.

When asked why Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP Vijayashanthi did not take part in the protest staged during President Prathibha Patil’s address to the Joint Sitting of both Houses of Parliament on the first day of the Budget Session, Prof Kodandaram said that he was not aware of what exactly happened. He said he would make a statement only after getting clear information about what had happened in New Delhi.
