Backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Telugu Desam Party Members, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao and his party colleague Vijayashanti on Thursday disrupted Question Hour and forced Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn proceedings in the Lok Sabha.
The TRS MPs were demanding that the adjournment motion moved by KCR should be taken up for discussion immediately. However, the Speaker said that the motion would be taken up during Zero Hour.
The TRS leaders disagreed with the Speaker’s ruling and insisted that the issue must be discussed during Question Hour. When Ms Meira Kumar refused to relent, the TRS leaders trooped into the well of the House and raised ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans. Their slogan shouting was backed by BJP and TDP Members from Telangana who too raised ‘We want Telangana’ slogans.
The din resulted in the Speaker announcing the adjournment of the House till 11:15 AM.
Later, speaking to media persons, KCR said that the TRS will not rest till a concrete assurance on the a discussion on the issue is given on the Floor of the House. He said that he would continue to disrupt proceedings till such an assurance comes.
The TRS chief also said that his party would boycott the Railways and general Budget presentations.
Accusing the Centre of ignoring the Telangana issue even after 600 people have given up their lives for the cause of a separate statehood.
Giving time to the Centre till March 1, KCR said that he would take a final decision on how to further press the government on the issue on that day. He said that the Congress Core Committee had asked the Telangana protagonists to wait till February 28.
The TRS chief also expressed his gratitude to the BJP Members for extending support on the Floor of the House and for the introduction of a Telangana Bill in Parliament.
