No attempt to murder cases against leaders: DGP

Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao on Saturday denied that cases against some leaders under section 307 (Attempt to Murder) were booked in the aftermath of the violence at the Tank Bund on Thursday during the Million March.

Mr Aravinda Rao in a statement said that the reports which appeared in a section of the media that cases of attempt to murder were registered against some top leaders are incorrect.  

“All sections of Law do not apply to all persons,” the statement said. “While some people may be accused of violence, some will be accused only for conspiracy under Section 120 (B) of the CrPC,” the DGP stated.

The DGP also said that there was no truth in the reports appearing in media that there was a ‘blame game’ in the police department, with officers trying to pass on the blame for the incidents on each other.

“Such news reports are clearly motivated and calculated to weaken the morale of the Police Department,” Mr Aravinda Rao said.

He said that the police personnel of all ranks had worked in co-ordination during the Million March on March 10.

The DGP added that allegations about the police force observing excessive restraint or being complacent to the point of inaction are being looked into and assured that appropriate remedial measures will be taken.

Mr Aravinda Rao also stated that it was made to all the officers that any attacks on persons or property will not be tolerated and force will be used commensurate to the action by agitators.
