The deadlock in the State Assembly over the appointment of a Joint Legislature Committee to probe the land allocations to the associates of YS Jaganmohan Reddy in the city continued on the sixth day on Tuesday with the government remaining inflexible and rejecting the opposition demands for the probe.
The House after it met, did not transact any business due to the disruption caused. The Legislators rushed to the Speaker’s podium and raised slogans while sporting placards in support of a JLC enquiry.
However, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar instantly rejected their demands. Industries Minister Geetha Reddy replying to the opposition claim for a JLC said that a discussion on the subject should be prioritized first and then the government would look into the aspect of ordering a JLC probe.
Taking no notice of her advice, the opposition continued their pressure on the government. This way the proceedings were stalled and the Chair had no other go except adjourning the house for a short break. Earlier, the Congress Members from Telangana also raised slogans in support of Telangana Bill in Parliament.
Apart from the Telangana Congress leaders’ protests, the CPM Members also stormed the Speaker’s podium and raised slogans demanding a solution to the SC, ST funds utilization.
In view of the din created and the uproar by the Members, the Chair could not transact any listed business. The Deputy Speaker pleaded the agitating members to restore calm and resume their seats. Legislative Affairs Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu also intervened and appealed to the members to allow the proceedings to go on, but the din continued and the House was adjourned for a short break again. Later the Deputy Speaker invited the Floor Leaders to his Chambers for a meeting for conducting the proceedings as scheduled.
