Alleging that Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA K Taraka Rama Rao had managed to make thousands of crores of rupees in the name of the separate statehood issue since his advent into politics, Telangana Telugu Desam Party Forum member and MLA Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that the Telangana agitation has now become a business to the TRS leader.
Mr Dayakar Rao told media persons at the TDLP that KCR had parted ways with the TDP to launch the TRS and the party was initially sincere in its fight for Telangana. However, since KTR was brought in the picture, the Telangana agitation has been turned into a personal business for KTR who is raking in money and purchasing property around the twin cities, the senior TDP leader alleged.
“It is surprising that KTR has been given the party ticket and has been made an MLA even though there has been no single instance where he was an active participant in the protest for Telangana. He has never received a lathi blow nor has he ever sat on a dharna. People have lost their lives, limbs and properties while struggling for Telangana and compared to this, what has KTR done,? Mr Dayakar Rao questioned.
The TDP leader further reminded that his party leaders had faced the fury of the Maharashtra police when they went to that state to protest against the Babli project, while KTR has not done anything for Telangana. “How can he deliver speeches in favour of Telangana while the real heroes of the agitation suffered,” Mr Dayakar Rao wondered.
The senior leader also regretted the fact that the TDP had allowed the TRS to be a part of the ‘Mahakutami’ the coalition of parties which came together to take on the Congress juggernaut in the 2009 elections.
He said that, that decision was one of the primary reason behind the TDP’s poor showing in the 2009 elections. “The TDP would have won the seats in Telangana region if it had not supported the TRS and would have formed the government. The TDP government would also have passed a resolution on Telangana,” Mr Dayakar Rao stated.
“Very soon, the people of the region will see through the TRS leaders who have made the separate statehood agitation a business and are raking in money. The real protagonists of Telangana will then chase these ‘so called sympathisers to the Telangana cause’ from the region. That time is very near,” Mr Dayakar Rao predicted.
