Do not drag Sonia into TDP's letter politics: Congress

The State Congress on Thursday lashed out at Telugu Desam Telangana Forum convenor  Errabelli Dayakar Rao for attempting to drag Congress president Sonia Gandhi into the TDP’s internal politics.

Talking to media persons at the Gandhi Bhavan, party spokesperson Kamalakar Rao, Warangal District Congress Committee president Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary G Niranjan said that the sending of letters of support on the Telangana resolution by the TDP is the party’s internal matter.

“Why does Mr Dayakar Rao think that Ms Sonia Gandhi would seek a letter on the Telangana resolution from TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu?,” Mr Kamalakar Rao wondered, referring to the TTDPF convenor’s statement that that if the AICC chief wanted a letter from the TDP chief, he was ready to give it within one hour.

The TDP chief has been beset with demands that he send a letter clarifying his party’s stand on the separate Telangana statehood issue by suspended party leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy and his supporters.

The Congress leaders stated that there was no need for Mr Naidu to give such a letter to Ms Sonia Gandhi. “If Mr Naidu so desires, he could give such a letter, clarifying the party’s stand on Telangana, to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram,” the Congress leaders stated.

Reacting on TDP MLA Revanth Reddy carrying a gun while on his way to the Telangana Ranabheri in Karimnagar district, the Congress leaders said this would indicate that TDP wants achieve Telangana through factionalism.

The Congress leaders also said that the TDP suspending Mr Nagam Janardhan Reddy from the party ‘exposed’ the party’s commitment towards the separate Telangana statehood agitation.

They said the Congress leader will make their stand clear on Telangana at the all-party meeting to be convened by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
