Refusing to believe that pro-Telangana activists could possibly attack his convoy, Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao said that his convoy was pelting with stones by Samaikhya Andhra activists in Warangal on Wednesday.
He also demanded that the Kakatiya University be renamed after Telangana ideologue Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar.
Addressing media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office, Dr Shankar Rao said that he believed that the attackers who pelted stones on his convoy in Hanmakonda in Warangal earlier in the day when he went to pay his last respects to Prof Jayashankar were not Telangana activists, but integrationists who wanted to sow seeds of hatred among the Telangana people.
“I will not believe that the attackers were pro-Telangana activists. They are most certainly pro-Integrated Andhra Pradesh activists and resorted to attacking my convoy to create differences between all those who are fighting for a separate state,” Dr Shankar Rao said.
He added that the pro-Telangana activists realise what Congress leaders have done and are doing for the cause of the separate state and hence would never attack any leader from his party
“Whoever they might have been, the attackers committed a grave mistake, violating a solemn occasion. They did not even show their respects to one of the leaders of Telangana by observing restrain,” Dr Shankar Rao stated.
He added that his earlier predictions about Telangana had all come true, and said that a decision on a separate state would be made before the end of June.
“I am trying to get an appointment with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. I hope to go to New Delhi as soon as the appointment is fixed. I will raise the Telangana issue before her,” the Minister promised.
