Minister For Law and Courts Erasu Prathap Reddy on Wednesday appealed to Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana to take the lead in finding a solution to the controversial separate statehood issue.
Talking to media persons after meeting the PCC chief at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Prathap Reddy said the PCC should mountain pressure on the High Command to find a solution acceptable to the people of all the three regions. Stating that ‘it is very difficult to satisfy the people of all the regions,’ Mr Pratap Reddy said that “one region would definitely have to suffer loss or damage in the event of bifurcation of the state.” “It is quite natural we cannot do justice to all the regions and satisfy the aspirations of people,” the state’s Law Minister pointed out and appealed to the Centre to give priority in finding a solution to the vexed issue. “The Centre must solve the problem on priority basis to clear the prolonged uncertainty in the state,” he said. Mr Prathap Reddy further predicted that any decision the Centre takes on Telangana would lead to some leaders becoming dissatisfied. “Some dissatisfied leaders would definitely quit the party while others would stay back,” he added. “Resigning en masse will not solve the problem, but in fact precipitate the matter further. If the government collapses due to the resignations, how can the Legislators hope to get any Bill passed in Parliament?” Mr Prathap Reddy wondered. Another Congress MLA from Telangana region, K Lakshma Reddy appealed to the PCC chief to take steps for addressing the problem. He asked the PCC chief to convene a meeting with leaders of the three regions. Mr Lakshma Reddy’s words were echoed by another MLA from Coastal Andhra region, Nageswara Rao. Responding to their suggestions, Mr Satyanarayana assured them that he would convene a meeting with leaders of all three regions soon.
