Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday announced that his party would stall the winter session of Lok Sabha, starting from Tuesday, over the demand of formation of separate Telangana.
Talking to reporters at his residence, Chandrashekar Rao said that the TRS would take the support of all parties who are in favour of smaller states and would mount pressure on the Centre to grant statehood for the Telangana region. He said his party would not allow the Lok Sabha to function till the Centre makes a statement on Telangana.
The TRS president hailed the decision of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati of dividing her state into four parts. He said Mayawati has set an example for all the states in country. Stating that smaller states could ensure development, he said that the Centre should support Mayawati's initiative and consider the demands for formation of smaller states in the country.
Chandrasekhar Rao requested Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to introduce the Telangana Bill in the winter session of the Parliament. He said except for statehood for Telangana region, the TRS would not agree for any other solution.
The TRS chief also rubbished the intelligence reports that claimed that Telangana state would strengthen the naxalites. He said the naxalite threat was being quoted out of context and presently, the Maoists’ activities in the entire State are minimal.
