Former Congress minister J C Diwakar Reddy on Wednesday said that the political leaders from Kurnool and Anantapur districts were in favour of Rayala-Telangana State.

Talking to media persons in the Assembly premises, Diwakar Reddy said that the Rayalaseema leaders were in favour of formation of Rayala-Telangana although the coastal Andhra leaders were opposed to the bifurcation of the State. He said that he would take up this proposal before the Congress High Command in New Delhi after consulting all leaders from the region.

Even the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, MIM and left parties were also in favour of this proposal, he claimed. Apart from solving the water problem, he said that backward Anantapur and Kurnool district would be developed with the merger in Telangana only.

Responding to a question, Diwakar Reddy said that Opposition Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu did not respond favourably to this proposal. In the event of bifurcation of state, he predicted that the TDP would completely wipe out from the State.
