AICC Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao alleged that former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was a corrupt politician and he promoted the corrupt practices of his son Jagan Mohan Reddy while in power.
Talking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Hanumantha Rao said that he has been reiterating that bothg YSR and Jagan indulged in largescale corruption in the State. However, he said some ministers were not willing to speak against Jagan Mohan Reddy due to personal reasons. But, he said a majority of the Congress leaders share the same opinion that YSR and Jagan were equally corrupt.
Hanumantha Rao said that the Congress party would not lose anything if it avoids using the photograph of YSR during by-elections. He said that identity of 125-year-old Congress party was not confined to one leader and the Congress candidates could easily win elections by using the photographs of party leaders Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
He also requested Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi to participate in the campaign for the next by-elections to be held in 18 assembly constituencies and one Parliament seat.
Hanumantha Rao also refuted the media reports that Chiranjeevi was being given due importance after he merged his Praja Rajyam Party into the Congress. He said Chiranjeevi entered into politics for the cause of social justice and he saved the Congress Government at the right time. Therefore, he said the question of not giving importance to a leader like Chiranjeevi does not arise. He said the party would soon nominate Chiranjeevi on a prominent post.
