Congress lost due to its own mistakes: Rajanarasimha

Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Saturday said that the Congress party has suffered a major defeat in the by-elections due to its own mistakes.

Talking to media persons, Damodar Rajanarasimha said that the party was defeated in the majority of constituencies due to its mistakes including the delay in selection of party candidates and ineffective tackling of YSR Congress party honorary president Y S Vijayamma and former chief minister YSR’s daughter Sharmila. He said that the sympathy wave over the arrest of Jagan by the CBI did not work out in Godavari districts as the Congress was able to win Ramachandrapuram and Narsapuram assembly seats which were considered as strong bastions of YSR Congress party.

"Had the Congress party worked out a better strategy at least three months before the by-elections, then the results would have been different," Rajanarasimha said. The deficits in the Congress party have become assets for some other parties, he said and added the party would rectify its mistakes and revamp the party cadre to face general elections in 2014 effectively.
