CPI confident of Telangana formation

Communist Party of India (CPI) Secretary K Narayana on Tuesday said that the Andhra Pradesh would be bifurcated soon.

Talking to reporters here, Narayana said that a majority of parties who participated in the All-Party Meeting on Telangana issue on December 28 have advocated bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Therefore, he said that the Centre should concede the statehood demand. However, he said that the indications were strong about the formation of Telangana State.

Earlier, Narayana met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp's office at Begumpet seeking release of prisoners who have spent five years in jails and have good conduct.

Narayana also asked the Chief Minister to seek Centre's intervention in preventing Karnataka State from depriving the State's share in Tungabhadra River. He said thousands of farmers in the State were suffering due to diversion of water from Tungabhadra River by Karnataka farmers. Seeking the immediate intervention of Water Tribunal and ministries' concerned, he asked the Chief Minister not to remain a mute spectator to the injustices being meted out to State farmers.

The CPI leader also welcome the arrest of MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and Hindu Rakshana Samithi president Swamy Kamalanand Bharati for making alleged hate speeches. He said noose of law should be tightened around those who misuse freedom of expression to incite communal hatred among communities.
