VHR condemns YSRCP's campaign for Jagan's release

Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday ridiculed the YSR Congress party's move to seek the intervention of President Pranab Mukherjee for the release of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy from jail.

Talking to reporters, Hanumantha Rao said that the YSRCP launched a signature campaign for Jagan as if he was given death sentence. Further, he said that President's intervention is sought through Mercy Petitions for convicts who were awarded death sentence. However, submitting a "Mercy Petition" for a person who was arrested on the charges of accumulating illegal wealth was ridiculous, he said.

Hanumantha Rao alleged that the YSRCP's Honorary President Vijayamma was trying to gain people's sympathy while misleading the common masses about Jagan. He said that Vijayamma was trying to cover-up the misdeeds of her son Jagan by conducting campaigns like "Jagan Kosam Janam". He demanded that the government should also order a probe into how late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy accumulated wealth even before he became the Chief Minister.

Speaking about Telangana, the Congress MP said that the sentiments for united Andhra Pradesh in Seemandhra region were not strong compared to the separate Telangana sentiments. He alleged that the Seemandhra leaders were issuing hollow threats of resigning from their posts if Telangana was formed. He claimed that a majority of people in Seemandhra region were not against the formation of Telangana State.
