Boric acid enrichment plant

Manuguru, July 11 (TNN): The Heavy Water Treatment Plant in Manuguru added two more feathers to its cap with the inauguration of boron elimination and boric acid enrichment plant.The Atomic Energy Commission Chairman, Mr Anil Kakodkar, on Saturday inaugurated the boron elimination and boric acid enrichment plant at Heavy Water Treatment Plant in Manugugu.
 
Talking to media persons, he said the enriched boric acid was used as coolant system in nuclear reactors. The nuclear reactor plant design provides for minimal mixing between the reactor coolant solution containing the enriched boric acid solution and the natural boric acid solution used during refueling operations, he added.He said the high-technology heavy water from the plant, used as a moderator and coolant in the nuclear and research reactors.
 
The heavy water board, which had attained self-sufficiency in heavy water production, also achieved the capability to export heavy water of any specification.Manuguru produces a major quantum of heavy water required for the nuclear power reactors of Department of Atomic Eenergy. The plant adopted notable eco-friendly uses of fly ash.
