Andhra Pradesh Govt to establish 14 new airports

As part of Andhra Pradesh Government’s plans to have 14 airports in the state, Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapati Raju met Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu at latter's camp office on Saturday.

The Chief Minister discussed issues of land acquisition and infrastructure facilities required for the new airports planned by the government. Even investments and revenue from airports to the state government were discussed. The Chief Minister said that the State would have 14 airports. Of these, three would be international airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati and 11 airports in different districts.

Speaking to media persons later, the Civil Aviation Minister added that the international airports construction at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati was promised by the earlier government and is being implemented by the NDA government.

Ashok Gajapati Raju added that they would require land for the runway expansion of Vijayawada airport and infrastructure upgradation would also be required. He also said that airport development is the responsibility of the Centre and the state could cooperate by providing land required for the airport.
