Congress senior leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh on Saturday demanded the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for shielding former IPL chief Lalit Modi.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here, Jairam Ramesh said that both Sushma and Vasundhara Raje should have resigned from their posts on moral grounds. He also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the issues and said lack of action against Sushma and Vasundhara Raje exposed the dual stand of Modi on the issue of corruption. He also pointed that the Enforcement Directorate had registered cases against Lalit Modi, who is accused of hold huge black money. At one side the Prime Minister talks of bringing back the black money and on the other, he supports those who shield people like Lalit Modi, he said.
Jairam Ramesh also questioned the silence of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Chief Ministers, N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrashekar Rao respectively, on their failure to respond on the issue of Lalit Modi.
He said that the Prime Minister did not react to 34 questions posed by the Congress party before the Modi Government on Lalit Modi issue. He alleged that Lalit Modi was well connected with the Prime Minister, BJP National President Amit Shah and Adani Group.
