To position Andhra Pradesh on the global map as an emerging education and knowledge hub, India’s renowned research-based university Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Amrita University) has come forward to set up its Medical University in Amaravati. Amrita University, which currently operates 5 campuses in South India will soon set up a mega university in the state.
Alongside the Rs 2,500 crore medical university, a multi-speciality hospital with 2,250 bedding capacity will also be constructed. A Research- Healthcare campus center, affiliated with the medical university will also be set up.
A delegation from Amrita University presented a detailed report on the proposed university and multi-specialty hospital to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Responding to the Chief Minister’s request to set up Amrita University in Amaravati, the delegation said, Mata Amritanandamayi has taken a decision to set their medical university in Andhra Pradesh’s capital.
“In our pursuit to make Andhra Pradesh a knowledge and education hub, we are seeking assistance and technical support from international institutions. Already 13-14 institutions have come forward to support Andhra Pradesh. Amrita Medical University in Amaravati will bolster the city’s prospects worldwide,” the Chief Minister said.
Several international institutions have already come forward to set up their medical facilities and institutions in Amaravati. Recently, Andhra Pradesh government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Indo-UK Institute of Health (IUIH). The union government has also come forward to construct AIIMS in Mangalagiri.
Amrita University is a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary research university, and is ranked as one of the best research universities in India. The university continuously collaborates with top US universities including Ivy League universities and top European universities for regular student exchange programs, and has emerged as one of the fastest growing institutions of higher learning in India.
University pro-chancellor Abhayamrita Chaitanya, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences Director Dr. Prem Nair, Ammaji Labs Director Bhavani Bijlani, Amrita International Representative (California) Srinivas Polisetti and others were present.
