Lashing out at the TRS government for its anti-farmer policies, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the GO 123 was the most harmful for and suppressing the interests of farmers.
During a workshop on Land Acquisition policy of TRS government at Gandhi Bhavan, Uttam alleged that state government was deceiving the farmers using this GO and trying to bypass the union laws on land acquisition.
Stating that UPA-2 government in the year 2013 had brought a comprehensive land acquisition law with full guarantee of interests to the farmers, Uttam Kumar said that state government ignoring it now. He said that the GO 123 was a curse on the Telangana farmers and Congress party would fight for safeguarding the rights of farmers in the state.
The meeting was attended by senior Congress leaders including SC Cell chairman Koppula Raju, Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy, R C Kuntia and other senior leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, SC Cell Chairman Koppula Raju said that holding a village meeting for the villages coming under submergence has been a years old practice. He said that before acquiring the lands of farmers government must go for social assessment audit. He said that government needs to pay three times more than the land value if it is coming up with a project and land at another place must also be given. Similarly, acquiring lands for industrial purposes needs to give an employment to the displaced families.
“GO 123 is not assuring anything like that and forcefully grabbing the precious lands of farmers besides not paying them the proper value,” he lamented. He said that Congress would fight for the rights of farmers and would never let government grab the legitimate rights of them.
