Telangana will soon have 24 districts and 74 mandals by Dasara, according to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. On an average, each district is expected to eventually have 20 mandals.

Addressing a meeting arranged for the TRS parlaiementary party and legislature party at HICC on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said the smaller districts were being carved out for the administrative ease and governance only. “There is no political mileage as is being accused by the Opposition,” the CM remarked.

KCR said with the increase in the number of districts, the administration would find it easier to meet the people's needs. He pointed out that only Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal had not increased the number of districts in the country and due to this, the Central funds were not being released.

The CM also rebuked the Opposition claims that the new districts were being formed for political gains and added that an all party meeting would be convened soon to take the views of all stakeholders on the issue.
