New Delhi, Jan 9: The Union Cabinet met here on Saturday to discuss the simmering issue of statehood to Telangana but failed to come up with any concrete decision.According to sources, the biggest obstacle that came in the way of consensus was the lack of unanimity among senior Congress leaders on the issue. Experts feel that there will be more behind the curtains discussions trying to find a solution to this vexing problem.
"There was a meeting between the cabinet and the cabinet committee on economic affairs. It lasted about 10 minutes," the sources said. The meeting presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was attended among others by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy. Some of the issues which Union Home Minister P Chidamabram could have sorted out was away in Tamil Nadu.
