Former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Monday said that the Centre’s demonetization policy has dealt a severe blow to every section of the society particularly the rural economy.

Speaking to media persons here, Ponnala said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who initially criticized note ban did a U-turn and supported the same policy after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that KCR was habituated to changing his stand often on major issues. What prompted KCR to support the note ban policy when the people were facing severe crisis due to cash crunch even till now? the Congress leader said.

Ponnala said that the Centre has insulted the people of the nation by implementing a policy that deprived livelihood of scores of people across the country. He said that the Congress would organize a protest against note ban on January 19 under the aegis of party’s women wing in all districts in the state. The said that the party would also stage a protest at regional RBI office in the city on January 20 demanding that the Centre lift all restrictions on withdrawal of money from banks and ATMs.
