Sabita: CID report on OU attacks in a week

Facing the ire of  Telangana  leaders in the Legislative Assembly,  Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy on Wednesday made a statement on the attacks on the students and journalists on Osmania  University campus on Sunday.  ``A detailed report on the brutal attacks on students and media will be submitted to the Government within a week,’’ she noted.

Narrating the sequence of events in the House, she said a few students and journalists were injured in the incident. ``The police also suffered injuries due to stone-pelting by students who were becoming unruly, ‘’ the  Home Minister  added.

"It is really unfortunate that the police resorted to laticharge on the OU campus. But on Sunday night (Feb 14) Section 144 was in force all over Hyderabad. Defying the orders, the students wanted to march towards the Tarnaka region, when the police interrupted  the students’ procession and urged them to go back. The students  angered by the disruption pelted stones at the police and the police, in turn, resorted to laticharge,'’ the Home  Minister observed.

``The fault not only lies with the students, but also with the police as they failed to restrain themselves while dealing with the students. We have advised the police to maintain restraint even though the students or the agitators may provoke. But except for that unfortunate incident, the police all over the Telangana region are maintaining restraint even when the agitators have been provocative while attacking the houses of the Congress legislators," Sabita  explained.
