It is the Telangana cause, over which the students and politicians were united for a couple of months. Now, the Joint Action Committee of the students and the political Joint Action Committee are at loggerheads with each other over the allotment of party tickets for the ensuing Assembly by-elections.

The student leaders, who are bent upon taking the agitation forward, urged the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and JAC leaders to allocate party tickets to the survivors in the family of those who sacrificed their lives, by committing suicides for Telangana. However, this proposal, did not find favour with the party circles.

In a bid to convince the students, the party leaders have suggested through the feelers that the party should re-elect those who had resigned. Not convinced with the suggestion, the students have threatened to field candidates of their own in case the TRS does not yield to their request. This has put the TRS cadre and the JAC leaders in a fix.

Already hardpressed under the tough stand adopted by the Congress to take on the TRS in the forthcoming by-polls, the threat of JAC students has posed a new problem before the TRS. With the Telugu Desam and CPI signalling a multi-pronged contest at the hustings, the TRS, in all likelihood, is in for a piquant  situation.
