Thousands of devotees who thronged Bhadrachalam saw the celestial wedding of Trethayug epic hero Rama with Sita on Wednesday. The temple town was spruced up for the occasion.
The devotees who took a holy dip in the river Godavari rushed to Mithila Stadium to watch the wedding. People from Warangal, Krishna, West and East Godavari, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Rangareddy andHyderabad districts apart from Orissa and Chattisgarh visited the town for Sri Rama's Kalyanam.
The idols were taken on a palanquin to the kalyana mandapam to the accompaniment of Vedic hymns rendered by the priests. Chief priests Koti Ramakrishnamacharyulu and Podicheti Ramachandracharyulu led the teams of priests comprising Koti Sriramannarayanacharyulu and Amaravadi Vijay Raghavan.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah brought 'mutyala talambralu' and 'pattu peethambaralu' on behalf of the State Government and offered them to the divine couple as per traditions. He reached the mandapam at 11.
55 a.m. and took part in the kalyanam. Earlier, the wedding of the Dhruva murthulu (idols in the sanctum) was performed at the temple.
The temple authorities let the devotees into the temple to watch the Kalyanam. The dignitaries who attended the celestial wedding include Endowments Minister Gade Venkata Reddy, the District in-charge Minister D Rajanarshimha, Minister for Co-operation Ramireddy Venkatareddy, Chief Whip Mallu Batti Vikramarka andBJP leader Bandaru Dattathreya.
In view of the visit of Rosaiah, the security was tightened at the temple town. Combing operations werestepped up and all vehicles heading for the temple were checked by the police.
