The state government has abandoned the welfare schemes and all programmes for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden to the wind, stated Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababau Naidu on Monday.
Talking to reporters after releasing pamphlets and posters of hartal planned to be organised along with Left parties on the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities on April 27 across the country at NTR Trust Bhavan, the TDP leader alleged the state government was bothered about mobilizing resources and neglected the welfare of people.
“The government is hiking taxes on all goods to mobilize additional resources and allotting meagre funds in the Budget for the welfare schemes and programmes,” he alleged. He demanded that the state government lift four percent of Value Added Tax imposed on essential commodities to reduce prices.
He appealed to the government to take stern action against hoarders and traders of food items for creating artificial scarcity of goods in the market. He asked the people to join in the hartal on April 27 across the country against rising prices of commodities in the market.
