Rising sun symbol for Praja Rajyam

Hyderabad, July 17:-

The Election Commission on Friday allotted rising sun symbol to the Praja Rajyam Party.

The film-star-turned politician, Mr K Chiranjeevi, has decided to change his Praja Rajyam Party's election symbol, dropping the heavyweight 'Rail Engine', following the party’s drubbing in recent Assembly and parliament elections.

Earlier, the party approached the Election Commission of India for rising sun symbol.

The party is in a hurry for a new symbol as it wants to contest the forthcoming civic elections, specially the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls on the new symbol. 

The PRP's performance turned out to be a big disappointment to its supporters as it managed to win only 18 assembly seats and did not open its account in Lok Sabha. Many blamed it on the symbol of Rail Engine. The party decided to do away with 'rail engine' symbol on the advice of some astrologers.

“This symbol is more appealing and closer to the party’s philosophy and flag. We will insist on the rising sun symbol and I don’t think there would be any hurdle,” PRP chief said.

The Election Commission recognized Praja Rajyam as state party as it had polled more than 15% in the recent elections.
