Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Monday directed the Finance Department to release Rs 1,000 crore to reimburse fee for economically backward students pursuing their studies in private professional colleges by June-end.

Briefing the Cabinet decisions over the reimbursement of fee to students and release of scholarships to reserved category students, chaired by Chief Minister at Secretariat, Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said the government has paid Rs 512 crore towards reimbursement of fee to colleges.

Till last year, the dues towards reimbursement of fee to colleges is Rs 2083 crore. However, the government would clear all pending dues to colleges by August-end, the minister stated.

Students whose parental annual income does not cross Rs One lakh would get the reimbursement of fee benefit. However, the government would also take their attendance into account before sanctioning the tuition fee, Bose said.

The Chief Minister has directed the officials to clear all pending dues to colleges at any cost. Technical Education Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana also attended the meeting, Primary Education Minister D Manikya Vara Prasad also attended the meeting.
