The visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh has been put off. The reasons for the postponement have not yet been released from the Prime Minister’s office in New Delhi.
The Prime Minister was scheduled to visit Chittoor distrcit on July 9 and 10. Singh was supposed to lay the foundation-stone for the BHEL-NTPC joint venture project for manufacturing electrical equipment at Mannavaram on July 10.
Andhra Pradesh bagged the prestigious project in a triangular contest with Maharashtra and Rajasthan in 2009. Earlier, the foundation-stone laying ceremony scheduled for Sept 6, 2009 was deferred due to the death of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
Manmohan was also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the Tirupati International Airport on July 10, a long-pending wish of the thousands of devotees who visit the temple. The Ministry of Civil Aviation decided in 2008 to upgrade the airport to an international airport with the construction of an integrated terminal building and extension of the runway by 984 metres.
