Bharatiya Janata Party leader M Venkaiah Naidu, veteran Congress leaders V Hanumantha Rao and Nedurumalli Janaradhana Reddy were among the 52 parliamentarians who took oath as members of Rajya Sabha on Monday, the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh who was elected from Andhra Pradesh, however, was not present in the House to take the oath.
Sujana Chowdary, Gundu Sudharani, Ram Vilas Paswan were among the other elders who took oath in the morning before the House was adjourned for Tuesday.
Earlier, the House made obituary references to Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and sitting member Digvijay Singh who died during the inter-session period.
The House also condoled the death of former member Ram Sagar. The members also paid homage to Kargil war heroes who fought valiantly to evict Pakistani soldiers from icy heights.
