Chief Minister K Rosaiah laid the foundation stone for Apache's shoe-making unit at Potthur in Guntur mandal on Saturday.
Apache Footwear India Pvt Ltd, shoe maker for global footwear brand Adidas, has set up its manufacturing unit at Pothuru in Guntur district close to the National Highway No.5 between Vijayawada and Guntur.
The unit costs about Rs 23 crore and is set up over 50-acre land. The Apache products will be released to the market by 2011, Rosaiah assured. Due to this project, nearly 3,000 peope will get employment in the region, he added.
All basic amenities and infrastructure for establishing the industry would be extended to the investors who would like to invest in the State, CM assured.
Major Industries Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, speaking on the ocassion, said two large garment manufacturing units were coming up at Budampadu and Bapatla and efforts were on to establish a textile park for consuming 25 to 30 per cent of yarn being produced by spinning mills in the district.
Many more industries would come up in the district, for which the Communist parties have to extend their cooperation with the Government, he suggested.
