A clash of titles has sparked a debate in the Tamil film industry, with two films, starring Vijay Antony and Sivakarthikeyan, respectively, revealing the same title, Parasakthi, with slightly different spellings. While Vijay Antony's film has been titled Parashakthi in Telugu, Sivakarthikeyan's film will be known as Parasakthi across languages. Interestingly, both films mark the 25th outing for their respective lead actors.
The title Parasakthi rings a familiar tone to film buffs, as it was the title of a 1952 Tamil film starring Sivaji Ganesan, a cult classic known for its famous monologue by the protagonist towards the climax. Vijay Antony's team has claimed that they rightfully registered the title in July 2024 with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, which may force Sivakarthikeyan's team to opt for a different title.
However, in a surprising twist, AVM Productions, which holds the rights to the 1952 film, released a statement congratulating Sudha Kongara and the team of Sivakarthikeyan's film, and announcing that they are happy to pass on the baton of the title to Dawn Pictures, the production house behind Sivakarthikeyan's film. This development may have resolved the title controversy, but the debate has already generated significant interest among film enthusiasts.
Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi features a talented ensemble cast, including Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa Murali, and Sreeleela, who is making her Tamil debut. The film is directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Dawn Pictures. Meanwhile, Vijay Antony's Parashakthi is directed by Arun Prabhu Purushotaman and features a seasoned cast, including Vaagai Chandrasekar and Sunil Kriplani.
